You want to be a princess?

I hear this every morning when we are deciding what to wear for the day.

Mary has decided that wearing a skirt or a dress will make you a princess. It doesn't have to be a dress up dress or anything fancy, but it can't have legs in it. Anything with legs will make you a prince.

I started taking pictures of Mary's obsession with skirts and dresses last month, until I realized it's an EVERY day thing. I have to do some serious bargaining to get her into pants or shorts.

A sampling of her March attire:
A day of shopping.

Playing around the house

To the playground.

Playing dress up.

Helping in the yard.

Mommy's dress over her own dress.
(She's totally mad in this picture because I interrupted her pretend moment. She lives in a little magical world and warns us frequently not to look at her while she's playing.)

Needless to say, summer shopping has been a breeze this year. Nothing but play skirts and t-shirts for this girl.

Not Yet

I am starting to get plenty of messages asking if we have had a baby yet. We have not.

That's why I'm sitting here blogging.

I am 2 days away from my due date and there are no signs of a baby coming any time soon. Mary came at 41 weeks, and I'm completely planning on this one taking just as long. Not fun.

We'll get the news out once he makes his big debut. Complete with graphic pictures of the entire birth.

I'm kidding.

Check back soon.

Baby Shower

Some friends threw me a baby shower and we now have a closet of clothes for our baby boy! I was having a hard time getting motivated to buy little boy clothes (trains, trucks, dinosaurs, tractors ... I'm not feeling it), so with a little help from some fabulous baby shower gifts, our little guy won't have to wear plain white onesies every day of his life. Now everyone can stop making fun of the empty closet in the baby's room.

The party planners ... and my big pregnant self.

Thanks for such a fun afternoon!

Charis is due two months after me, but with twins. She makes me look like a blimp, and she has two in there.
I still can't believe I took a picture like this...

Amber has 4 kids and that big smile on her face is all because she isn't the pregnant one this time around.

Thoughts

I'm 37 weeks pregnant. I'm still feeling good, just feeling SO pregnant. I'll be happy to be done whenever this guy decides he's ready.

Paul has the flu. He had big plans to paint the baby's room last week and work in the yard all day Saturday, but he can't get out of bed.

My parents showed up like miracle workers last night and taped and primed the baby's room. They are rock stars.

We are still at a loss for baby names. We're hoping something will come to us by the time we leave the hospital ...

St. Patrick's Day #4

Mary's St. Patrick's Day photo shoot.

2007

2008
(she has a mouthful of snacks in this one)

2009
(and this one)

2010
(no bribes needed in this one ... as long as she got to wear her beloved "Christmas Dress")

She looks like such a big girl to me. There's not much baby left in there ... kind of sad. At least we get to start the process all over again here in a few weeks. St. Patrick's Day 2011 = 2 green kids in the rocking chair.

Snow Fun

Pictures from our big snow day in February.

Walking home from the train station.

Snowball fights and snowman building.

Mary wanted to go check on her snowman one morning. I told her she had to put on her coat and her boots before she went outside. Next thing I know, her nightgown is off and she's in the backyard in nothing but her coat and her boots.

Next time I'll include the pants part of the outfit.

Paul: You're going to get cold and wet if you make snow angels like that.
Mary: It's okay, I can get a dry pair.

... and she did.

February Update

Based on my photo album from February, nothing happened last month except a good snow day.

February 12. 2010

I've been a slacker about taking pictures lately. So before I forget ...

We started off the month with a little family vacation to Macon, GA. Ha. Paul had to do some work there one week so we went to stay with him for a night. His boss made fun of us, and after spending two days in Macon, it was well deserved. Besides the indoor pool at the hotel, there's nothing else to do. Not a city I would volunteer to live in.

The next week brought on our first visit from the stomach flu as parents. Mary has never thrown up, so when she called out to me in the middle of the night (completely calm) saying "the soup" had come out of her mouth, I told her it was just drool, it would dry, and to go back to sleep. Bad Mom award right there. Thankfully, she knew it was more than drool, so she came in our room and we got her into the bath and the bedding into the wash. Poor girl. She stuck it out for four days as the most content sick kid I have ever seen.

We spent a day at the Aquarium with my Mom. Sadly, the coolest exhibit, the Beluga whales, sea otters, and penguins had all been removed for construction. How do you just take Beluga whales out of the middle of a city? Not fun.

Valentine's weekend was our snow weekend. One of the best snow days I have ever seen in Georgia. We had piles of thick, fluffy, snow. We played in it all weekend and then enjoyed 60 degree weather the next week.

We celebrated Valentine's Day/the anniversary of the day we met at the Melting Pot. Our first time ... definitely a fun dinner, but not our favorite for a nice meal.

I ordered rugs for all of our bedrooms and our living room. Paul had a heart attack when he found out the total bill, but I'm pretty excited about having soft floors again. There's nothing cozy about cold hardwood floors. Especially when your feet are hitting them seven times a night to go to the bathroom.

We took Mary to see Princess and the Frog at the dollar theater last week. It was $5 for our whole family and there were only two other people in the theater. That's my way to see a movie. Mary asks me every day if I remember when we went to the movie theater. I think it was a hit.

I'm hitting up the OB every two weeks now, the baby is head down and measuring just fine. I'm feeling extra huge, and hoping that the next 6 weeks will pass quickly.

That's it.
