We moved a week ago.
The plan was to pack up the house last weekend, close on our house on Monday, move it all in that night and have everything set up before we left town on Christmas Eve.
Except it went like this.
We packed up our stuff last weekend. Reserved a moving truck and transferred all of our utilities. We were all lined up for closing at 2:00pm on Monday.
Paul called at 11:00am Monday morning and said he had to be in Boston that night.
Really?
Yes.
He couldn't get back until Wednesday night.
Closing went beautifully. We showed up with a big fat check, signed a million papers and walked away with the keys to our house and Paul headed straight to the airport.
My brother, Cory, won't say no to a challenge and pulled off a smooth move that night. Everything made it out of our old place and into our house. Perfect.
Except we have no gas. No heat. No hot water. No oven. No stove.
The previous owners told us that all of the utilities were scheduled to be turned off on the 23rd, so I had them all scheduled to be transferred on the 21st and 22nd. Too bad they had already shut the gas off.
Too bad Atlanta Gas and Light can't come until next Tuesday to turn it back on. They say "it's a busy time of year" and "plenty of people are in your same situation," but that doesn't make my house any warmer.
With the help of some space heaters (eight, to be exact), and the hot water at our townhouse (for showers), we are cruising right through the week (is it Tuesday yet?)
On the bright side, this freezing cold house is OURS. We found a house that we love ... we bought it ... and we moved in. We are in love with this place.
Merry Christmas to us.
